Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested three individuals in connection with a series of warehouse burglaries across Nairobi and its surroundings, culminating in the theft of goods worth millions of shillings.
According to the DCI, one of the most significant heists involved stolen goods valued at Ksh 23.8 million. Investigations began after a formal complaint was filed at the Industrial Area Police Station on February 3, 2025, detailing a warehouse break-in and the disappearance of high-value merchandise.
Through forensic analysis and surveillance, detectives apprehended two suspects, identified as Francis Kinyua Nyaguthi and Benson Murigi Mbugu, in the Njiru and Komarock areas. Upon questioning, the two led authorities to a storage facility in Ruiru, where a cache of stolen goods was uncovered.
During the operation, law enforcement officers recovered 80 Samsung 43-inch television sets. A subsequent search of Benson Murigi’s residence yielded an additional television set, further linking him to the crime. The suspects then provided crucial leads that directed officers to Kariobangi and Gikomba markets, where authorities confiscated two more televisions and ten rolls of seat upholstery material suspected to have been stolen from the warehouse.
The scope of the investigation expanded on February 13, 2025, leading to the arrest of a third suspect, Solomon Were Thea. A search of his residence uncovered ten solar panels, which are believed to be part of the stolen property. Solomon’s interrogation further assisted investigators in tracing additional stolen goods, resulting in the seizure of a lorry in the Industrial Area. The vehicle was loaded with 233 rolls of seat upholstery material, suspected to be part of the stolen consignment.
The suspects are currently in police custody as they undergo processing in preparation for their court arraignment. Authorities have assured the public that investigations are ongoing to recover more stolen goods and identify any additional accomplices linked to the series of warehouse heists.
The DCI has urged warehouse owners and business operators to remain vigilant and enhance security measures, particularly in industrial zones where criminal syndicates are increasingly targeting high-value goods. Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies continue to intensify efforts to dismantle organized crime networks responsible for such thefts.
As the suspects await their day in court, the authorities remain committed to ensuring justice is served and that businesses can operate in a secure environment free from criminal threats.
