Limuru, Kiambu County – A senior police officer based at Limuru Police Station was ambushed and robbed of his firearm by armed thugs on Sunday, . The officer, an inspector, was on his way to Ngarariga Police Station for an inspection when he was attacked at Njira Njeru, near Kwa Rufus shopping center.
According to reports, three gunmen on a motorcycle, armed with an AK-47 rifle, blocked the officer’s private vehicle at gunpoint. In the confusion, his car veered off the road and landed in a ditch. The armed gang followed him, ordered him out of the vehicle, and took his loaded firearm containing 15 rounds of live ammunition before speeding away. Fortunately, the officer was unharmed.
Police believe the gang had been trailing the officer before executing the attack. Authorities have since launched a manhunt for the suspects, warning that such stolen weapons are often used in criminal activities. Detectives are pursuing leads to recover the firearm and arrest the culprits.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident in Githunguri, Kiambu County, a police officer was arrested in connection with livestock theft. The incident came to light after a resident of Matimbei reported his Fresian cow missing in Thakwa village.
Police launched investigations and recovered the stolen cow, leading to the arrest of a suspect. The suspect revealed that he had purchased the cow for Ksh79,000 via M-Pesa from a police officer attached to Ngewa Police Station. However, it was later discovered that the officer had been absent from duty for weeks without explanation, effectively making him a deserter.
Authorities traced the rogue officer to Githunguri Township, where he was found driving a salon car. He then led investigators to his rented homestead in the Kiangima area. Upon searching the premises, police discovered 13 cows and four calves, suspected to have been stolen.
Police are now waiting for locals to identify the recovered livestock, as several residents had earlier reported their cows missing. Investigations are ongoing to determine the extent of the officer’s involvement in livestock theft and any potential accomplices.
The two incidents highlight growing concerns about security in Kiambu County, where criminals have become increasingly bold in their activities. Law enforcement agencies have vowed to intensify efforts to curb such crimes and ensure justice is served.
