What was meant to be a peaceful Sunday morning at Christ Impact Church in Ruiru quickly spiraled into chaos as a group of young protesters, identifying themselves as the “TikTok High Court,” stormed the church. Accusing the pastor of sexual misconduct, the enraged demonstrators pelted stones, vandalized property, and smashed worship instruments, forcing the abrupt halt of worship services.
The protest was fueled by allegations that the pastor had been assaulting young boys and fellow pastors within the congregation. Additionally, he was accused of drugging drivers and boda boda riders who had been running his errands for the past two years. “Bad pastors should stop hiding in churches,” stated David James, one of the protesters, as emotions ran high among the demonstrators.
Jacquiline Jaycee, another protester, explained the motivation behind their actions. “We came and missed him. We found the church members and explained what is going on. We are here to ensure justice and make sure this behavior does not continue in churches.”
The situation quickly escalated, leading to violent clashes between the protesters and the police. Officers were forced to fire tear gas as the mob continued their destruction, further intensifying the chaotic scene. Protesters claimed that law enforcement had been shielding the pastor from justice, obstructing investigations, and allowing the alleged abuse to continue unchecked.
Antony Mulai, one of the demonstrators, revealed that victims had provided medical evidence, including hospital receipts and records of surgeries undergone due to the alleged abuse. “Seeing that this has been happening for two years without police action, we decided to come out and demand the government address these issues,” he said.
Despite the mounting accusations, Ruiru Sub-County Police Commander Maina Kibathi maintained that no formal complaints had been filed against the pastor. However, protesters countered this claim, citing a report filed at the Central Police Station two years ago, allegedly confirmed by Hon. Mike.
As authorities continue searching for the pastor, who fled the scene, the incident raises broader concerns about accountability within religious institutions and the role of social media activism in seeking justice. Whether this protest will lead to formal legal action remains to be seen, but for now, the “TikTok High Court” has made its stance clear: impunity will not be tolerated.
