A joint operation led by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles linked to the tragic deaths of three National Police Reservists (NPR) in Isiolo County. The rifles, found by officers from the DCI’s Crime Scene Investigations (CSI) team and the General Service Unit (GSU) in Kipsing, were discovered with empty magazines and are believed to have been used in the brutal murders of the NPR officers.
The incident occurred on April 7, 2025, when armed raiders ambushed and fatally shot the NPR officers in Isiolo North Sub-County. The attack sent shockwaves through the region, prompting immediate investigations and a large-scale manhunt. The recovery of the rifles marks a significant step forward in the ongoing investigation, which is being overseen by the DCI’s Igembe North team.
The DCI has expressed gratitude for the collaborative efforts between their specialized teams, the local administration, and the members of the public, all of whom played crucial roles in this operation. The support from the local community has been instrumental in helping law enforcement officers make headway in identifying the perpetrators of the crime.
While details of the investigation remain limited, the DCI has assured the public that further updates will be provided as the probe continues. The authorities are keen to bring the responsible parties to justice and ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future.
The murder of the NPR officers has sparked concern over the safety and security of law enforcement personnel, particularly those deployed in remote areas where such attacks are more common. The DCI has emphasized its commitment to enhancing security and strengthening efforts to combat armed banditry and other forms of criminal activity in the region.
As investigations continue, residents of Isiolo and surrounding areas remain hopeful that justice will be served, and the perpetrators of this heinous act will be held accountable.
