Two suspected drug traffickers have been arrested following a successful operation by the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) in Kabaa Village, Machakos County. The raid, conducted at a homestead in the area, was led by Senior Superintendent of Police Nicholas Kosgei and resulted in the recovery of a substantial quantity of illicit substances and drug-related paraphernalia.
According to NACADA, enforcement officers seized 87 sticks of bhang, 20 brooms suspected to have been used in concealment or packaging, as well as rolling papers (Rizla), scissors, and an undisclosed amount of cash believed to be proceeds from the illegal trade.
The two suspects were arraigned in court on Thursday and formally charged with trafficking in narcotic drugs. The operation is part of NACADA’s ongoing efforts to disrupt drug networks that have taken root even in remote regions of the country.
NACADA Chief Executive Officer Dr. Anthony Omerikwa lauded the enforcement team for their swift and coordinated action, and praised the local community for their role in supporting the operation.
“This arrest sends a strong message to drug traffickers and peddlers that their days are numbered,” said Dr. Omerikwa. “We are not relenting in our mission to dismantle drug networks across the country. No matter how remote the location, if you traffic drugs, we will find you.”
He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue working with authorities by reporting suspicious activities through NACADA’s toll-free hotline 1192. Dr. Omerikwa emphasized that community collaboration remains a key pillar in the national strategy to combat drug and substance abuse.
NACADA confirmed that similar crackdowns will be intensified in the coming weeks as part of a broader strategy to eliminate the supply and distribution of narcotics across Kenya. The agency reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the well-being of communities by targeting individuals and networks involved in the illegal drug trade.
