The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has seized 800 rolls of bhang during an anti-narcotics operation in the Kimbo area. The operation, led by officers from Mugutha Police Station in collaboration with National Government Administration Officers (NGAO), resulted in the arrest of two suspects aged 21 and 30.
According to the DCI, the suspects were caught in possession of various quantities of bhang, indicating a well-organized drug trafficking operation. The officers confiscated 13 sachets containing 35 grams each, five sachets weighing 130 grams each, 44 sachets of 16 grams, and two digital weighing machines. These findings suggested that the suspects were prepared for large-scale distribution.
“The two suspects are currently in police custody, undergoing processing before their arraignment,” stated the DCI.
Meanwhile, in Moyale, police officers on patrol intercepted a motorcycle carrying two suspicious sacks. The rider, upon noticing the officers, abandoned the motorcycle and fled. A search of the sacks revealed 20 bales of bhang weighing approximately 100 kg. The motorcycle and the narcotics were taken as evidence as police launched a manhunt for the suspect.
This incident follows a similar case earlier this year in Mombasa’s Jomvu area, where an intelligence-led operation led to the arrest of a suspected drug trafficker. The suspect was stopped while driving a suspicious vehicle along the Mombasa-Nairobi Road. A search of the vehicle uncovered large rolls of bhang hidden in the boot, demonstrating the extreme measures traffickers take to evade capture.
In another development, police at Kapletundo Police Station have arrested a suspect linked to the vandalism of Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) transformers in Sotik, Bomet County. Acting on a tip-off, officers apprehended the suspect while vandalizing a transformer. Upon interrogation, he disclosed the locations of two additional vandalized transformers in Chepkosa and Cheptigit villages.
The suspect is in police custody, while a manhunt is underway for his accomplice. The DCI has warned the public against vandalizing critical infrastructure, noting that such actions lead to power outages that disrupt businesses and livelihoods.
Authorities remain committed to intensifying efforts to curb drug trafficking and vandalism across the country.
