Mystery surrounds the brutal killing of two men whose bodies were discovered dumped near Mombasa Road in Athi River, Machakos County. A third victim, who sustained deep panga cuts, is currently fighting for his life in hospital, according to police reports.
Authorities and local residents who responded to the scene reported that the victims had severe injuries, suggesting they were attacked elsewhere before their bodies were discarded at the location. The exact motive behind the killings remains unknown, and no arrests have been made so far.
Pedestrians passing by a petrol station near the crime scene were the first to spot the bodies and alerted the authorities. Upon arrival, police confirmed that one of the deceased had no identification documents. Law enforcement officers have launched investigations, including reviewing security footage from nearby buildings and roads, in an effort to track down the perpetrators.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, the body of a man was found inside a kiosk in Njoro, Nakuru County, in what police suspect to be a case of murder. The deceased, identified as Michael Kibet, had visible bruises on his elbows and forehead. Authorities believe he was killed long before his body was discovered on the morning of Monday, February 24. His body has since been moved to the mortuary for autopsy as investigations continue.
Elsewhere, a tragic road accident along the Chepterit-Chemundu road in Nandi County claimed the lives of two people. The accident occurred when two motorcycles collided head-on, resulting in the deaths of both riders and serious injuries to three pillion passengers. The injured victims were rushed to Kapsabet County Referral Hospital for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were taken to the local mortuary. Police have since launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.
Further details have emerged regarding the identities of the slain men in Athi River. One of the victims has been identified as Robert Irungu Makeri, 61, while the injured survivor has been named as Samuel Njoroge, 64. Investigators are waiting for Njoroge to recover before questioning him about the circumstances surrounding the attack.
The police suspect that the victims were ambushed elsewhere before being transported and abandoned at the scene. As investigations continue, law enforcement authorities urge the public to come forward with any information that may help solve these grisly crimes.
With the increasing number of violent incidents and fatal accidents, authorities continue to stress the importance of community vigilance and road safety awareness to curb further tragedies.
