Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi has strongly refuted claims by Dela/Anole Ward MCA Yussuf Hassan, who alleged that the governor orchestrated his abduction in March. Abdullahi has vowed to pursue legal action unless Hassan provides evidence to back his serious allegations.
Speaking to the press on Sunday, Governor Abdullahi dismissed the claims as “unfounded propaganda” and accused political rivals of using the MCA’s abduction ordeal to tarnish his reputation. Hassan, who was released by his captors on March 9 after a six-month disappearance, had claimed in a Saturday press briefing that his abduction was linked to his opposition to the 2024 county budget. He further alleged that the governor had a direct hand in his captivity, citing the involvement of the governor’s “fingerprints” in his ordeal.
However, Abdullahi vehemently denied these accusations, suggesting they were part of a political plot aimed at undermining his influence, especially as he holds the position of Council of Governors (CoG) Chair. “The people of Wajir know the truth,” Abdullahi stated. “This is just a political attack designed to malign me, especially now that my influence is growing.”
The governor, accompanied by various county leaders including Wajir Speaker Yussuf Abdille, emphasized that he condemns abductions and has a clear record against such actions. “I will not rest until Yussuf provides proof or faces the consequences in court,” Abdullahi warned. He further raised concerns about potential threats to his safety and that of the MCA, urging the Inspector General of Police to ensure the MCA’s protection during the ongoing investigations.
Wajir East MP Adan Daud, alongside other leaders, also condemned the allegations. While they expressed sympathy for Hassan’s harrowing experience, they described his claims as reckless and unfounded. Daud announced that the matter would be addressed through both legal and social channels.
The controversy continues to unfold, as Wajir’s leaders vow to clear the air and pursue justice for all involved.
