Authorities in different parts of Kenya are investigating multiple deaths reported in the last 48 hours, raising concerns over rising insecurity and unexplained fatalities.
In Samburu County, a 26-year-old man was shot dead while transporting sandalwood in the Wamba area. The deceased, identified as Ibrahim Kimengech, was found lying on the roadside in Oromodei with a bullet wound on his back. Police recovered a spent cartridge, a live bullet, a damaged mobile phone, and pieces of sandalwood at the scene.
The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, as no items were stolen from the victim. Residents suspect that special agents tasked with curbing illegal sandalwood trade may have been involved. Sandalwood is classified as an endangered species, making its harvesting and sale illegal. However, law enforcement officers have yet to confirm this theory. Investigations are ongoing, but no arrests have been made.
Meanwhile, in Siaya Town, a three-year-old boy tragically succumbed to injuries after being bitten by a dog. The child was rushed to Siaya Medical Hospital, where he later died. Police reported that the boy had visible bite marks on his right hand near the elbow. Officials suspect the dog may have been infected with rabies, prompting efforts to track down both the animal and its owner for further action.
In Mombasa, a decomposed body was found floating in the Indian Ocean near the Kwa Punda area in Mikindani. Fishermen discovered the unclothed male body drifting along the shoreline. Police, with the help of locals, retrieved the remains and transported them to Coast General Hospital Mortuary for preservation and identification. The cause of death is yet to be established, but authorities suspect drowning.
A similar case was reported in Migori Town, where another unidentified male body was seen floating in the Migori River within Nyangubo village. The body, which had no visible injuries, was retrieved and taken to Migori County Referral Hospital Mortuary for an autopsy and possible identification.
These incidents highlight the growing concerns over security, public safety, and the dangers of illegal trade and unregulated animal ownership. Law enforcement agencies are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities as investigations into these cases continue.
