Majority Chief Whip Silvanus Osoro has opened up about his deep personal relationship with Dagoretti North MP Beatrice Elachi, revealing that she has been a mother figure to him since childhood. Speaking during the memorial service for Elachi’s late son, Elvis Namenya, Osoro explained why he rarely engages in controversial debates in Parliament whenever Elachi is present.
With a sense of nostalgia, the South Mugirango MP recounted how Elachi took him off the streets after he lost his parents at a young age. She played a pivotal role in nurturing him, shaping his character, and supporting him through life’s challenges. Osoro regards her not just as a fellow MP but as family, deserving of the utmost respect.
“When I needed somebody to take the place of my mother when I was getting married, Beatrice Elachi stood up and became my mother. And that is why today, I stand on the side of the family. She has been a pillar all through, and sometimes when we disagree, she takes charge,” Osoro stated.
During the emotional memorial service held at the Holy Trinity Church in Kileleshwa, Osoro revealed that he often refrains from contributing to debates in Parliament whenever Elachi is in the House. He humorously mentioned that Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja often asks him to tone down his rhetoric, but if Elachi were to request it, he would willingly remain silent or even leave the chamber.
The memorial service was attended by MPs and other leaders who gathered in solidarity with Elachi as she mourned her son, Elvis, who tragically passed away in a road accident on March 25, 2025. A final-year student at Africa Nazarene University, Elvis was described as a kind, hardworking young man who had a promising future ahead of him.
In her speech, Elachi expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support her family has received. She encouraged young people to maintain open communication with their parents and emphasized the importance of prayer for divine protection.
As Elachi mourns her son, the outpouring of love from colleagues, friends, and family underscores the strength of the bonds she has built over the years, especially with Osoro, who continues to honor her influence in his life.
