Kenya is set to host the highly anticipated Regional Health Promotion Conference (RHPC) 2025 in Nairobi, marking a significant milestone in the country’s commitment to improving health outcomes across the East African region. The event, organized by the Ministry of Health in partnership with VSO International, the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), and other regional stakeholders, will take place under the theme: “Sustainable Health Promotion through Universal Health Coverage and Intersectionality in Healthcare.”
The conference aims to bring together a diverse range of stakeholders, including government representatives, health experts, policymakers, and key players from sectors such as education, technology, climate change, and the private sector. Together, they will explore innovative solutions to promote health and wellness across communities. The event will emphasize the intersectionality of health, highlighting how various factors, such as education, climate change, and technological advancements, play a crucial role in achieving sustainable health outcomes and advancing universal health coverage (UHC).
According to the Ministry of Health, this year’s RHPC will be a platform for dialogue, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing. The conference will focus on strengthening health systems and promoting inclusive health strategies that leave no one behind. It will also delve into the role of technology in enhancing healthcare delivery, and the importance of climate change mitigation in ensuring long-term public health.
The conference is expected to attract over 500 regional delegates and strategic partners from Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Ethiopia, and other countries in the region. These experts will work together to discuss effective approaches to integrating health promotion strategies into wider societal issues, particularly in the context of East Africa’s diverse socio-economic challenges.
Ahead of the event, Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Mary Muthoni, met with the VSO technical team led by Papa Diouf, the Global Practice Area Lead for Health. During this meeting, they reviewed the event’s progress and discussed the steps being taken to ensure a successful and impactful conference.
As preparations continue, Kenya’s role as a leader in regional health development is reinforced, setting the stage for impactful conversations and collaborations that will shape the future of health promotion in Africa.
