Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) has issued a weather update, indicating that sunny and dry conditions are set to prevail over most parts of the country. The weather forecast shows that these conditions are expected to persist throughout the week, with occasional light to moderate rainfall in a few regions.
The Highlands West and East of the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, South Rift Valley, Coastal region, and Southeastern lowlands are all expected to experience mostly sunny and dry weather. These areas will see clear skies during the day, with temperatures expected to soar to more than 30°C, particularly in the Coast, Northeastern, North-western, and parts of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, and Southeastern lowlands. The daytime highs will contribute to a hot atmosphere, especially in regions like Mombasa, Garissa, and parts of the Lake Victoria Basin.
Despite the prevailing sunny conditions, Kenya Met has also predicted that a few areas might experience occasional light to moderate rainfall. The South Rift Valley and Lake Victoria Basin, including counties like Nakuru, Kisumu, and Migori, may witness rain on Thursday morning, followed by intermittent afternoon showers and thunderstorms in select areas. These showers, however, will not be widespread and are expected to be brief.
Nights across the country will be mostly partly cloudy, with some regions experiencing cooler conditions. In particular, parts of the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, such as Nairobi, will have temperatures dropping below 10°C during the night. Areas like Nyandarua, Meru, and parts of the Central and South Rift Valley may also experience cool nights with occasional showers, especially on Friday.
The northern and northeastern regions of the country, including Turkana, Samburu, Marsabit, and Wajir counties, will see sunny days, with partly cloudy skies at night. The Coast region, comprising Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale counties, will also enjoy sunny intervals during the day, though there may be occasional morning showers extending into the afternoon.
Overall, the weather will remain warm, with sunny intervals during the day and cooler, partly cloudy nights. The public is advised to stay hydrated and prepared for the occasional afternoon rain in select areas.
