Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has assured Kenyans that stalled road projects across the country will be revived and completed. The projects, which had been halted since 2019 due to financial constraints, are now set to be fully funded, with the Kenya Kwanza Administration allocating significant resources for their completion.
Speaking during a recent inspection of several road projects in Nyeri County, Kindiki announced that the government had earmarked Sh2.3 billion for the completion of roads in Kieni Constituency by August 2026. The roads in question include Endarasha-Charity-Gakanga-Embaringo-Kimunyuru, Mweiga-Amboni-Mbondeni-Ruiru-Karandi, Issac Camp-Mahiga-Sangare, Solio-Kabati-Gitegi, and Honi River-Wendiga Shopping Centre-Mairo. These roads had been abandoned for over six years due to budgetary challenges but are now a priority for the government, which has committed to their speedy completion.
The Deputy President attributed the newfound availability of funds to the economic stabilization measures put in place by President William Ruto’s administration over the past two years. He emphasized that with the economy now stable, resources are available to complete ongoing infrastructure projects across the country. In total, 12 roads are under construction in Nyeri County, with a Sh17 billion investment, highlighting the government’s renewed focus on infrastructure development.
Beyond roads, Kindiki outlined that the government is also focusing on other key development areas, including water projects, electricity expansion, and job creation programs. The Last Mile Connectivity Project, which aims to provide electricity to rural areas, was also a key focus of his visit. In Aguthi Village, Kieni Constituency, Kindiki switched on power for 101 homes, benefiting residents like 73-year-old Lydia Wairimu Karoki, who expressed her joy at being connected to electricity for the first time.
Additionally, the government is constructing 400 new markets across the country, contributing to economic growth and job creation. These markets will be launched once completed, with the President expected to visit and oversee their opening.
In his address, Kindiki stressed the government’s commitment to solving the challenges facing ordinary Kenyans, focusing on development rather than political distractions. He reaffirmed that the government would continue to prioritize infrastructure, energy, and economic initiatives to improve the lives of millions of Kenyans.
The Deputy President’s remarks underscore the administration’s determination to fulfill its promises of rapid development and improved living standards for Kenyans, particularly in rural areas where infrastructure has long been lacking.
