Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has dismissed calls from certain leaders urging him to oppose President William Ruto’s policies, asserting that such a stance is not within his job description. Speaking on Wednesday while hosting a delegation from Tharaka Nithi County at his official residence in Karen, Nairobi, Kindiki made it clear that his role is to support and assist the President in implementing government programs.
The Deputy President took a firm stand against those advising him to challenge Ruto, emphasizing that opposition should come from outside the government.
“There are characters I see advising me to oppose the President, and I’m wondering, is the work of the DP to oppose the President? Is that the job description? Those characters advising me to oppose the President are addressing the wrong person. Maybe they are talking to somebody else, not me,” Kindiki stated.
Kindiki stressed that anyone who wishes to challenge the administration should step out of government and do so as an outsider. He pointed out that it is illogical for someone to serve in government while simultaneously working against it.
“You cannot be the DP and sabotage the same government, or be in Cabinet flying a flag and then work against the administration. Fight us from outside. We are ready for you in 2027,” Kindiki declared, reaffirming his allegiance to the President’s leadership.
The Deputy President underlined his commitment to supporting Ruto in fulfilling his mandate and delivering on promises made to Kenyans. He explained that his role, as per the Constitution, is to assist and supplement the President’s efforts.
“I have to support the President, I have to fight for him, assist and supplement him because he cannot be everywhere. That is the work of the principal assistant to the President,” he added.
His remarks come at a time of growing political discourse in Kenya, as various factions position themselves ahead of the 2027 General Elections. Some leaders have been vocal in their criticism of Ruto’s policies, urging those within his administration, including Kindiki, to take a stand. However, Kindiki’s latest statements suggest he is firmly aligned with the President and his vision for the country.
As the political landscape continues to evolve, Kindiki’s declaration sets the tone for his position within Ruto’s administration and signals his readiness to defend government policies against internal and external opposition. His unwavering support for the President underscores the unity within the executive branch as they navigate governance challenges ahead of the next election cycle.
