In a recent poll conducted by Politrack Africa, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has been identified as the leading candidate to become President William Ruto’s running mate in the 2027 General Election, should Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua be replaced. Kindiki emerged as the favoured candidate with a notable score of 50.2 per cent.
Kindiki’s popularity in the poll is not entirely surprising, given his strong presence in Kenyan politics and his previous consideration as a leading contender for the running mate position in the 2022 General Election. His extensive experience and political acumen appear to have bolstered his standing among voters and political analysts alike.
Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro ranked as the second most preferred candidate to replace Gachagua, securing 19.7 per cent of the vote. Nyoro’s growing influence and active involvement in national politics have likely contributed to his high ranking.
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi was identified as the third-best option for Ruto with a score of 10.2 per cent. Mudavadi, a seasoned politician with a long-standing career in Kenyan politics, remains a significant figure and a potential candidate for the deputy presidency.
National Assembly Leader of Majority Kimani Ichung’wah and Speaker Moses Wetangula were also notable mentions in the poll, receiving 8.1 per cent and 7.1 per cent respectively. Both leaders have been active in shaping parliamentary proceedings and influencing legislative decisions, enhancing their visibility and popularity.
Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, the only female leader to make it to the list, was ranked sixth with 4.2 per cent. Waiguru’s inclusion highlights her continued relevance and influence in Kenyan politics, as well as the growing recognition of female leaders in the political landscape.
The results of the Politrack Africa poll offer a glimpse into the potential dynamics of the 2027 General Election and the possible contenders for the deputy presidency. As the political landscape evolves, these figures will likely play crucial roles in shaping Kenya’s future leadership.
