Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has commended President William Ruto for his efforts in fostering national unity and accelerating development, particularly in the marginalized regions of Kenya. Speaking in Wajir on Wednesday, Kindiki emphasized that Kenya’s vision of unity and prosperity had long been delayed, but the current administration is working tirelessly to change that.
“Our vision and destiny as a united and prosperous nation has been delayed for a long time. We thank our President William Ruto for fast-tracking and expediting the transformation of our country. Thank you, President Ruto, for uniting our country,” Kindiki said.
The Deputy President acknowledged that the North Eastern region has suffered significant developmental neglect over the years due to poor road infrastructure and inadequate electricity connections. However, he noted that the Kenya Kwanza administration has initiated critical projects to address these issues.
“The tarmacking of Isiolo-Mandera Road will go a long way in transforming the economy of Northern Kenya. The inclusion of Wajir in the national grid will also transform the county and the broader region,” Kindiki remarked.
He further stated that these projects will not only ease movement and access to government services but also promote economic growth in the area, which has lagged behind for decades.
One of the most significant announcements made during the visit was President Ruto’s decision to abolish the vetting of National Identity Card applicants in the North Eastern region. Kindiki termed this as a historic move that will ensure the people of Wajir and its neighboring counties enjoy equal citizenship rights.
“Today’s presidential proclamation to remove hindrances to the acquisition of the national ID and other identity documents for the people of Wajir and Northern Kenya is historic,” he said.
President Ruto signed the Presidential Proclamation on Registration and Issuance of IDs, stating, “We want the people of Northern Kenya to feel equal to the rest of the country.”
The event in Wajir was attended by several high-ranking leaders, including Defense Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullah Mohamed, Mandera Governor Mohamad Adan Khalif, and Garissa Governor Nathif Jama Adam, among others.
The collective presence of these leaders underscored the significance of the event and the government’s commitment to ensuring that all parts of Kenya receive equal developmental attention.
