The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has issued a clarification regarding the procedure for checking the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results. The exams body has dismissed a fraudulent notice circulating on social media that claims candidates can check their results via SMS.
KNEC emphasized that the only legitimate way to access 2024 KCSE results is through the official online platform. The exams body directed candidates to visit the dedicated results portal at http://results.knec.ac.ke.
To access results, candidates need to enter their index number and one of their registered names on the designated fields. After clicking on the “View Results” button, their examination scores will be displayed on the screen.
The notice circulating on social media had suggested that candidates could simply send a text message with their index number followed by the term “KCSE” to 20076 to access their results. This was flagged as a scam, with KNEC warning the public to be cautious about such misleading information.
The release of the 2024 KCSE results took place on Thursday, following the completion of marking on December 13, 2024. This year, a total of 965,501 candidates sat for the exams, an increase from the 903,138 candidates in 2023. The exams were held in 10,755 centers across the country, marking a significant milestone in Kenya’s education system.
While candidates can check their results online, the official result slips are also available at the examination centers where they sat for the exams.
KNEC also reminded the public that the option of checking KCSE results via SMS had been discontinued following challenges experienced during the release of the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams. This was a decision made by the former Education Cabinet Secretary, Ezekiel Machogu, due to errors encountered during the process.
For the most accurate and reliable information, candidates are encouraged to use the official KNEC website.
