The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has opened its placement portal for 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) graduates targeting admissions to Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) and Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions. The portal, accessible from January 24 to February 14, 2025, is designed to facilitate early enrollment for students in time for the March and May intakes.
This initiative focuses on candidates who scored below a C+ (plus) and thus do not qualify for direct university entry. KUCCPS CEO, Dr. Agness Wahome, announced the introduction of a phased application process to ensure students transition seamlessly to institutions that admit earlier in the year. KMTC and TVETs typically admit students in January, February, and May, whereas universities and Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs) conduct their intakes towards the year’s final quarter.
For the first time, KUCCPS has extended eligibility to candidates who sat for their KCSE exams between 2000 and 2024, giving them the opportunity to apply for placement at KMTC and TVETs. This move addresses the need for flexible enrollment and broadens access to vocational and medical training.
The portal also provides an opportunity for students who plan to retake their exams in July 2025. Those who achieve improved grades can use them to apply for the September intake. The phased approach ensures that no eligible candidate is left behind.
KUCCPS anticipates applications from a significant portion of the 605,774 candidates who scored below a C+ in the 2024 KCSE. Out of 962,512 candidates, only 246,391 scored the minimum university entry grade. The portal offers a lifeline to these students by facilitating enrollment in career-focused programs that provide technical skills and employability.
Students have been advised to consider KMTC and TVET campuses near their homes to minimize operational costs. KUCCPS will roll out a nationwide exercise to guide students on the application process, ensuring that applicants in all 47 counties receive adequate support.
This strategic change by KUCCPS not only enhances accessibility but also ensures prompt admissions for students in alignment with institutional schedules. It underscores the government’s commitment to nurturing a skilled workforce by providing alternative pathways for students to pursue further education and training.
