In a courtroom in Kenol, Kiambu County, a 25-year-old woman, Sarah Nyambura, was handed a one-year prison sentence after being found guilty of theft. The verdict, delivered by senior resident magistrate Sheila Nyaga, came after Nyambura was accused of stealing 13 pineapples valued at Sh1,300 from the Delmonte Kenya farm.
According to prosecution, Nyambura was apprehended on June 2, 2024, at approximately 4:22 pm while in the act of stealing pineapples on the Delmonte farm. This wasn’t Nyambura’s first brush with the law, as she had previously faced charges for similar offenses in 2023. Furthermore, the prosecution revealed that Nyambura had a pattern of involving minors in her criminal activities.
During her hearing, Nyambura pleaded guilty and appealed for leniency, explaining that she had committed the theft in order to pay school fees for her two children, who had been sent home from school due to outstanding fees. Despite her plea, the court convicted Nyambura based on her own admission of guilt, sentencing her to one year behind bars.
