Lagos State has entered into a partnership with Interswitch’s eClat for advanced health data management. This collaboration is facilitated through Digital Health Platform Limited, a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) that includes the Lagos Ministry of Health, Interswitch, and eClat. The SPV will oversee the technological operations required to support the initiative.
A pivotal Concession Agreement has been signed between the Office of Public Private Partnership (PPP) and the Digital Health Platform Limited. This agreement marks a critical step towards the full deployment of the State Health Information Platform (SHIP) within Lagos State’s health sector.
eClat, a health technology company founded in 2012, was acquired by Interswitch in 2019. This acquisition was part of Interswitch’s strategic plan to penetrate the healthtech market. Since its inception, eClat has been instrumental in the implementation of Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems. As of its acquisition, eClat reported that approximately 250 healthcare facilities across Nigeria, both private and public, were utilizing its EHR platform.
Lagos State is not the first to benefit from eClat’s expertise. In May 2023, eClat entered into a partnership with the Ogun State Government to introduce eClinic, its flagship product designed to enhance the quality and accessibility of healthcare services. This initiative was launched at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) and aimed at streamlining healthcare delivery.
Furthermore, eClat’s innovative solutions have also reached Oyo State. The Oyo State Government approved the deployment of eClinic across 33 Private Healthcare Systems (PHCs). This implementation is expected to significantly improve the quality of healthcare services in the state.
The collaboration with Lagos State is expected to bring about substantial improvements in health data management, ensuring more efficient and reliable health records. This partnership reflects a broader trend of integrating digital solutions to enhance healthcare delivery across Nigeria.
As Lagos State embarks on this journey with Interswitch’s eClat, it sets a precedent for other states to follow, showcasing the importance of public-private partnerships in driving technological advancements in healthcare. The deployment of SHIP is anticipated to not only streamline operations within the health sector but also to improve the overall quality of healthcare services available to the residents of Lagos State.
