Launch of Long-Lasting Insecticidal Treated Mosquito Nets in Kilifi County Aims to Combat Malaria

On Thursday, Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni launched a major health initiative in Kilifi County with the distribution of long-lasting insecticidal treated mosquito nets. The launch was attended by Deputy Governor Flora Mbetsa Chebule and Health CEC Peterson Mwarogo, highlighting the county’s commitment to preventive healthcare, especially in the fight against malaria.

The initiative is part of a broader effort to distribute insecticidal treated nets across 14 counties, which began in November 2023. So far, a total of 8,973,904 nets have been distributed, benefiting approximately 17,418,202 people. Kilifi County has received 1,121,621 nets, aimed at protecting its 1.7 million residents, with 287,985 households registered to receive the nets.

During the meeting, PS Muthoni underscored the importance of preventive and promotive healthcare in enhancing public health. “Today, we engaged in a productive meeting with Kilifi County’s distinguished leadership. Our focus was on evaluating healthcare programs, addressing challenges, and strategizing to improve healthcare delivery,” she stated. She highlighted the significance of distributing treated mosquito nets as a key initiative to combat malaria and improve overall health outcomes.
