The family of Naomi Chebet, a 31-year-old woman brutally murdered in Nairobi’s Kangemi area, is calling for urgent intervention by security forces to apprehend the man they believe is responsible her husband, Samuel Njoroge.
Naomi was killed on March 22, 2025, and her lifeless body was discovered slumped on a sofa in her home. In the aftermath of the gruesome incident, Njoroge reportedly fled the scene wearing clothing that obscured his identity, making it difficult for neighbors and authorities to track him down immediately.
Shortly after the murder, Njoroge took to social media, where he posted a chilling and unapologetic confession. In the post, he detailed his justification for the act, sparking widespread outrage and sorrow across the country.
Naomi’s family, led by her grieving mother Esther, described a disturbing pattern of domestic abuse in her marriage. Speaking through tears, Esther painted a picture of a marriage plagued by violence and fear. According to her, Naomi had suffered repeated physical assaults at the hands of Njoroge, who allegedly beat and strangled her on multiple occasions.
“She used to call us in the evenings crying, saying he had beaten her again. Sometimes he would even strangle her. She once told us, ‘This man is a beast,’” Esther recalled.
The family also revealed that Njoroge frequently issued threats, not only against Naomi but also against their children. Esther further disclosed that Njoroge had been spotted in the Solai area, now disguised in Islamic attire and wearing a face mask, likely in an effort to evade recognition.
Naomi’s brother, Harson, who was among the first to find her body, shared the horrifying moment of discovery. He said he found Naomi lying still on the sofa under a blanket. When he pulled back the covering, he was met with a swollen face and visible strangle marks on her neck.
“She was just lying there, not moving. When I uncovered her, her eye was swollen, and her neck showed signs of strangulation,” he recounted.
Harson joined his mother in urging authorities to intensify efforts to locate and arrest Njoroge. The family says they no longer feel safe, fearing that the suspect could return, as he knows where they live.
“We are asking the government and fellow citizens to help us find this man. We are not safe, and he knows exactly where we stay,” Harson said.
Law enforcement officials confirmed that the incident was reported at the Kabete Police Station. Investigations revealed that the suspect’s mobile devices were last traced to the Ruaraka area. However, despite multiple efforts, Njoroge continues to elude capture.
Authorities are now appealing to members of the public to remain vigilant and report any sightings of Njoroge. His continued freedom has only heightened the family’s pain and anxiety, as they grapple with the loss of a daughter and sister whose life was cut short in an act of horrific domestic violence.
The case has reignited conversations around gender-based violence and the need for stronger protective mechanisms for victims, as Naomi’s story becomes yet another painful reminder of lives lost to abuse and delayed justice.
