A fire chief from a suburb near Philadelphia admitted to authorities that he “kind of lost control” when he threw his three-month-old baby to the ground, causing severe injuries. The infant sustained a skull fracture, bruising, and unexplained bleeding, leading to serious concerns from medical staff.
According to investigators, law enforcement became involved after being contacted by the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia regarding the baby’s injuries. Initially, both parents claimed they had no knowledge of how the injuries had occurred. However, upon further questioning, the father later admitted that he had been home alone with the baby when the incident took place.
He explained that his daughter was crying inconsolably due to colic, and in a moment of frustration, he picked her up from her swing and threw her to the ground. The impact resulted in a skull fracture on the right rear side of the baby’s head. Doctors also noted bruising on her legs and bleeding around one of her eyes.
Authorities have charged him with aggravated assault, and he remains in custody with bail set at 10% of $500,000. His role as fire chief has been suspended indefinitely pending the outcome of the case. In addition to being a fire chief, he also worked as a firefighter and EMT.
The fire department addressed the situation by acknowledging the charges and confirming his suspension. They expressed their concern for the family and emphasized their commitment to transparency while ensuring the safety and well-being of the community. The department also stated that they would continue to support their firefighters and their families through this difficult time.
This case has sent shockwaves through the local community, particularly given the defendant’s position as a first responder entrusted with public safety. The severity of the infant’s injuries highlights the tragic consequences of losing control in moments of frustration, and the legal proceedings will determine the full ramifications of his actions.
