Househelp Arrested for Allegedly Stealing Sh2.2 Million from Employer
A househelp suspected of stealing Sh2.2 million from her employer’s home has been arrested after going into hiding following the alleged theft.
Authorities stated that the arrest was made possible through coordinated efforts by detectives from the Nairobi Regional Headquarters and the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau.
According to police reports, the incident occurred on March 16, 2025, when the employer left the househelp at home while attending to daily errands. A few hours later, a security guard contacted the employer, informing her that the househelp had been seen leaving the residence carrying a large bag.
Upon being questioned, the househelp claimed she was delivering something for her employer. However, sensing that something was amiss, the employer attempted to contact her, only to find her phone switched off. She rushed home and discovered that Sh2.2 million, which had been kept safely in her bedroom, was missing.
Following this discovery, investigations were launched, leading to the househelp’s arrest in Malava, Kakamega County. After interrogation, she directed detectives to Kapsoi, Vihiga County, where Sh700,000 was recovered from her grandmother’s house.
The search continued to her rural home in Kipkaren, Uasin Gishu County, where investigators found three chain links allegedly purchased using the stolen money. Further investigations led detectives to South B, Fuata Nyayo area in Nairobi, where an additional Sh800,000 was recovered from her rented house.
In total, Sh1.5 million of the stolen amount has been recovered. The suspect is currently in custody at Capitol Hill Police Station, undergoing processing as she awaits court proceedings.
