A Florida woman was fatally shot in her home after her husband allegedly refused to sign divorce papers. The suspect, Lamar Bryant, 41, has been charged with first-degree premeditated murder in the death of his wife, Takeshia Eads, 42.
According to police reports, Eads had recently filed for divorce, but Bryant refused to sign the paperwork. The fatal incident occurred on March 25, shortly after Bryant picked up their daughter from school. Witnesses stated that Bryant appeared intoxicated when he arrived at the school and displayed signs of impairment, such as slurred speech and disrespectful behavior.
After picking up his daughter, Bryant drove to a liquor store, purchased a glass bottle of alcohol, and consumed it while driving. He then proceeded to a storage unit that he reportedly used to store firearms and narcotics. Witnesses, including his daughter, saw him retrieve two firearms from the unit and place them on the center console of the car. One of the weapons was identified as a black Glock with a laser attachment.
Upon arriving home, Eads approached the vehicle and spoke to Bryant. While she went inside the house, Bryant handed his daughter the firearms and instructed her to hide them behind the house. Concerned about a suspected police helicopter flying overhead, he later retrieved the firearms from their hiding place and brought them inside.
Eads had gone to the bathroom inside the house. About 15 to 20 minutes later, her daughter, who had been sitting on the porch, heard what sounded like gunshots. Upon entering the house, she saw Bryant emerging from the direction of the bathroom. When confronted, Bryant reportedly shrugged and said, “nothing,” before exiting through a side door.
Eads’ daughter then discovered her mother inside the bathroom and called 911. Police confirmed that evidence at the scene aligned with witness statements. Authorities determined that Bryant had deliberately planned the killing, as there was no indication that Eads had been armed or posed any threat to him at the time of the shooting.
Eads was a mother of four and was expecting to become a grandmother for the fifth time. Family members described her as the backbone of their family, someone who positively impacted many lives.
Bryant has since appeared in court, where he was ordered to remain in custody. His next court hearing is scheduled for April 1.
