A Chicago man has been arrested on an out-of-state warrant related to domestic violence charges after his wife was found dead following a 24-story fall from their condominium.
Adam Beckerink, 46, was taken into custody by Cook County police on a warrant from Michigan, where he previously lived with his late wife, Caitlin Tracey, 36. Tracey was discovered in October 2024 at the bottom of a stairwell in their Chicago residential building. The cause of death was not immediately determined, but reports described her body as “pulverized” from the fall. Additionally, police noted that one of her feet was missing. Despite these findings, Beckerink was not charged in connection with her death. However, authorities moved forward with his arrest based on an outstanding Michigan warrant for failing to appear in court on an aggravated assault charge.
Court records revealed a pattern of domestic violence allegations against Beckerink. In January 2024, police had responded to an incident where Tracey was found with cuts on her lips and red markings on her body. At the time, she accused her husband of assault and theft. Police were again called to the couple’s home in August 2024 for another reported disturbance.
Beckerink had been scheduled to appear in a Michigan court on October 29, 2024, to face charges of aggravated assault. However, in the days leading up to that court date, he was in Chicago, being questioned about Tracey’s death. After failing to appear in Michigan, a warrant for his arrest was issued on October 31, 2024.
At the time of her death, Tracey and Beckerink had been married for just six months, but their relationship had already been marked by turmoil. In October 2023, Tracey had filed for an order of protection against Beckerink, citing four instances of domestic abuse. However, she later withdrew the request after he allegedly threatened to sue her for defamation and libel.
Beckerink is now facing multiple legal battles. He has been charged with six felonies and two misdemeanors in Berrien County, Michigan, including domestic violence and resisting arrest. Authorities plan to extradite him to Michigan, where he will stand trial for these offenses. Until then, he remains in custody in Cook County Jail without bond.
