Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has vowed to use the full extent of her authority to identify and punish individuals leaking sensitive information from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). She stated that those found guilty of such actions could face prosecution and up to 10 years in federal prison.
During a recent television appearance, Noem confirmed that DHS officials have begun administering polygraph tests to employees to identify those leaking details about planned immigration enforcement operations. She argued that such leaks compromise law enforcement officers’ safety and undermine efforts to enforce the law effectively.
“Anyone leaking information that affects the safety of law enforcement officers needs to be held accountable,” Noem asserted. “The authorities granted to me as Homeland Security secretary are broad and extensive, and I intend to use them fully to ensure the law is upheld, procedures are followed, and national security is maintained.”
She recently announced on social media that at least two individuals within DHS had been identified as “criminal leakers.” She intends to request a formal investigation by the Justice Department and pursue felony prosecutions against those responsible.
According to Noem, these leaks specifically involved planned enforcement operations in multiple cities, potentially endangering officers involved. “These individuals jeopardized operations and put lives at risk,” she stated. “They will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.”
Noem has built a reputation for her tough stance on law enforcement and has emphasized her willingness to make difficult decisions. She previously shared a personal anecdote about euthanizing her own dog, describing it as an example of her ability to take decisive action when necessary.
She believes that leakers within DHS and other government agencies are actively working against the current administration’s policies, obstructing efforts to secure the country. “These individuals are embedded throughout the government, and their agenda is to prevent the president from carrying out his policies,” she said.
Her department remains committed to identifying and removing those involved in unauthorized disclosures, with ongoing polygraph testing and investigative measures in place. “We will continue our efforts to root out individuals working against law enforcement and national security,” Noem confirmed.
