Three suspects have been arrested, and a large consignment of suspected cannabis sativa has been seized following a crackdown in Mwamogeza Village, Kisii County. The multi-agency operation, spearheaded by the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA), led to the discovery of seven 50kg sacks, four 90kg sacks, and two large carrier bags of the illicit substance concealed in rental houses.
Authorities identified Geoffrey Nyabira, also known as Jeff, as the prime suspect behind the illegal trade. Despite his escape during the raid, a manhunt is underway to apprehend him. Law enforcement agencies have reaffirmed their commitment to dismantling drug networks and bringing those responsible to justice.
“We are not relenting in our pursuit of drug barons, their merchants, and distribution networks,” stated NACADA’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Anthony Omerikwa. “This seizure is a testament to our resolve. We will hunt down every individual profiting from the destruction of our youth and communities.”
Officials are currently working to determine the street value of the seized narcotics while intensifying efforts to track down Nyabira, who has managed to evade previous arrest attempts. The crackdown is part of a broader initiative aimed at combating the proliferation of narcotics in various parts of the country.
Community members have been urged to cooperate with authorities by providing information on illicit drug activities. “Community involvement is key. Your tip could save lives and help us dismantle these criminal networks for good,” Dr. Omerikwa emphasized.
The operation in Kisii is one of many that law enforcement agencies are conducting across the country as part of a wider strategy to curb drug abuse at its source. Government efforts have been scaled up, with authorities targeting not only distributors but also the supply chains that facilitate the illegal drug trade.
Authorities believe that such operations will deter the drug trade and weaken organized networks that thrive on narcotics distribution. NACADA has vowed to continue its relentless pursuit of traffickers and syndicates operating in different parts of the country.
Increased surveillance and intelligence gathering have been employed to track down drug-related activities, with special attention given to regions known for illicit trade. Reports indicate that law enforcement officers have made significant progress in identifying high-risk areas where narcotics are stored and distributed.
The government has reiterated its commitment to ensuring a drug-free society, calling for the collaboration of stakeholders, including law enforcement, community leaders, and citizens, in eradicating drug abuse. The latest seizure in Kisii highlights the scale of the problem and the urgent need for continued vigilance.
As investigations continue, authorities are confident that they will capture the fugitive drug lord and further dismantle the networks involved in the trade. The crackdown serves as a strong warning to those engaged in drug trafficking, reaffirming the government’s zero-tolerance policy on the illicit trade.
