A Louisiana mother sparked outrage after posting provocative photos on social media to promote her OnlyFans account just days after her toddler son died from a fentanyl overdose in a motel room. Alongside the images, she reportedly discussed drugs and sex, leading her own sister to speak out against her in a victim impact statement urging the court to impose the maximum sentence.
Summer Cheyanne Buxton, 21, received an eight-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to manslaughter in the death of her 1-year-old son, Keynan Jay Buxton. The child’s aunt, Kayla Lyons, expressed disgust over Buxton’s lack of remorse, stating that her sister quickly returned to social media to focus on her own life rather than mourning the loss of her son.
During sentencing, the judge reportedly told Buxton that he could see the absence of remorse in her eyes and noted that she seemed disconnected from reality. Lyons reinforced this point in her statement, saying that Buxton was proud of her lifestyle and even boasted about having a “sugar daddy” who paid for her attorney.
Despite the sentencing, Lyons felt justice had not been served, pointing out that Buxton could be out of prison by the time she is 28. She questioned how the death of a child could result in a sentence shorter than the potential punishment for animal abuse, which can be up to 10 years.
Buxton’s defense team argued that the death was accidental, citing her severe drug addiction as a major factor impairing her judgment. They maintained that negligent homicide would have been a more appropriate charge, but the district attorney’s office refused to downgrade it.
The tragic incident occurred on May 30, 2023, when authorities found the child unresponsive in a motel room. An autopsy revealed that the toddler had fentanyl, methamphetamine-fentanyl, and acetyl fentanyl in his system. The boy’s father, Adrian Higgins, was also charged in the case and received a 10-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to manslaughter.
Buxton was arrested months later in January 2024 at a motel in Mississippi. Another woman was also taken into custody in connection with the case, with her court hearing scheduled for March 3.
An obituary for the child revealed that Keynan had tragically followed his little brother in death. The obituary noted that he was welcomed into Heaven by his sibling, along with several great-grandparents. The young boy was remembered for his love of Hot Wheels and anything with spinning tires. He enjoyed going to the park and swinging, and when he couldn’t play outside, he watched his favorite show, Cocomelon, with a particular fondness for the Star character.
The case has sparked discussions about justice, addiction, and parental responsibility, leaving many questioning whether the legal system adequately addressed the circumstances surrounding the child’s tragic death.
