A 24-year-old man has been arrested in Kirinyaga County for allegedly murdering a woman and burying her body in a septic tank at his family homestead in Ngurubani town, Mwea East sub-county. The suspect was apprehended on Friday night while hiding in Mwariko Estate within Ngurubani town.
Authorities have confirmed that the suspect has been taken to Wang’uru Police Station for questioning in connection with the murder. Additionally, two individuals who were hiding him have also been arrested.
The gruesome discovery was made by a housemaid while cleaning the toilets at the suspect’s family compound. Investigations suggest that the murder likely took place on Thursday.
The suspect’s father revealed that his son had struggled with education and frequently clashed with the family over business matters. He stated that his son did not complete university studies and had been taken for rehabilitation and counseling several times without success. On the day of the incident, the suspect had demanded a share of the family’s butchery business, but his request was denied.
During the arrest, there was confusion as tenants at the Mwariko Estate plot were unaware of the situation, with the suspect having been hidden by the landlord’s son.
In his confession, the suspect stated that the woman he murdered was a “one-day” girlfriend. According to him, he took her to his house after she had a fight with her boyfriend at a local bar. She was left alone and intoxicated. A fight later broke out between them, and he was shocked to discover that she had died after he hit her.
The suspect admitted that he did not ask for the woman’s name or where she came from, only noticing a bangle on her hand labeled “Rose.”
Authorities have announced that a forensic autopsy will be conducted to establish the victim’s identity. They are also appealing to the public for assistance in identifying and locating her family.
