Detectives in Bomet Central have arrested a 28-year-old man suspected of brutally murdering a 45-year-old woman in her home. The suspect, Wesley Cheruiyot Koech, allegedly attacked and killed Rachealine Rutto, leaving her mutilated body on the bed before fleeing the scene. The shocking discovery was made by Rutto’s daughter, who had grown concerned after repeated calls to her mother went unanswered throughout the day. Upon visiting her mother’s home, she was confronted with the gruesome sight of her lifeless body.
The body was found lying in a pool of blood, bearing deep wounds to the neck and multiple stab injuries to the arms, chest, and back. Authorities were immediately alerted, and a manhunt for the perpetrator was launched. Following extensive investigations, Koech was tracked down and apprehended in Sailo village, Kipkelion East Sub-County.
Upon interrogation, the suspect led detectives to his residence, where several pieces of evidence were recovered. Among them was a bloodstained knife, suspected to be the murder weapon, carefully wrapped in a cloth. Additionally, investigators found Rutto’s ring and a mobile phone containing disturbing photographs of the victim’s body, which had been taken by the suspect after the crime. These findings further implicated Koech in the heinous act, reinforcing suspicions of premeditation and a possible obsession with his victim.
Further investigations revealed that the motive behind the murder was rooted in a long-standing grudge. It was established that Koech had been involved in a romantic relationship with Rutto in 2016 when he was 19 years old, and she was 36. However, the relationship ended when Rutto decided to move on with another man. The breakup reportedly left Koech deeply resentful, and over the years, his anger festered, culminating in the violent attack.
The case has sparked concerns about the dangers of unresolved emotional conflicts and the potential for long-term resentment to turn into violence. It also highlights the devastating consequences of intimate partner conflicts when left unchecked. Authorities are continuing their investigations to ensure that justice is served for Rutto and her grieving family.
Following the arrest, Koech remains in police custody as detectives gather additional evidence. The case is expected to proceed to court, where he will face charges related to the brutal killing. The tragic incident has left the community in shock, with many calling for stricter measures to address gender-based violence and ensure that such crimes are met with the full force of the law.
