A Wisconsin man is now facing felony charges after allegedly throwing a baby over a second-story balcony.
The 31-year-old suspect was arrested on March 15 after reportedly “intentionally” dropping a 1-year-old girl from a balcony following an altercation with the child’s mother. The dispute began on March 13 when the mother, hearing her baby crying, confronted the man. The argument quickly escalated, with the suspect allegedly retrieving a knife and threatening the woman, stating, “You gon’ die today.”
As the situation became more heated, the suspect allegedly grabbed the infant by the head, dangled her over the balcony, and dropped her onto the wet lawn below, narrowly missing an air conditioning unit. After the fall, he reportedly returned inside and physically assaulted the child’s mother.
Despite the terrifying incident, the baby only suffered minor bruising. The mother later stated that she firmly believed the man was trying to kill her child. She sought medical attention for both herself and the baby at a local hospital, where she was treated for a sprained finger, a laceration requiring stitches, a swollen hand, and leg pain. Her shirt was stained with blood from the altercation.
Authorities investigating the case discovered a bloody knife at the home. When questioned, the suspect admitted to engaging in a “tug-of-war” over the child before tossing her over the railing. He acknowledged that the fight had escalated but did not believe he had gone too far.
The man was taken into custody and charged with substantial battery with a domestic abuse modifier and child abuse. During his initial court appearance, bail was set at $15,000. If released, he will be required to wear an electronic monitoring device and is prohibited from contacting the mother and other family members. His next court appearance is scheduled for March 24.
