A police officer has been arrested in Ruaka, Kiambu County, after he was found in possession of an unauthorised firearm. Authorities recovered a Glock pistol and two rounds of ammunition from the officer during the incident, which took place on Friday.
Investigations into the case began after police received a tip-off indicating that a man, believed to be a police officer, was in possession of a firearm without proper authorization. Acting on the intelligence, a team of officers arranged a sting operation to apprehend the suspect. They successfully lured him to a petrol station in Ruaka after learning that he intended to lease out the firearm.
Upon his arrest, the man identified himself as an officer attached to Sololo Police Station in Marsabit County. However, he failed to provide a credible explanation for how he came into possession of the Glock pistol and the ammunition. The firearm was not registered under his name, and he lacked the necessary documentation to justify having it in his possession.
The officer was immediately placed in custody as authorities launched further investigations to determine the origins of the firearm and whether there may be other individuals involved. He is expected to face charges in court once investigations are complete.
In a separate incident, police officers from Narok Police Station arrested three suspects believed to be behind a series of violent robberies in Narok town and surrounding areas. The arrests came in response to a distress call regarding an ongoing robbery at Total village.
According to police, a three-man gang had stormed a rental building in the area and attacked several tenants, robbing them of their possessions, which included mobile phones, laptops, and gas cylinders. During the robbery, a third-year university student was seriously injured in the chaos.
Swift action by the responding officers led to the arrest of the suspects. During the operation, police recovered three Maasai swords from the gang, indicating their preparedness to use violence. In addition, officers recovered two Lenovo laptops, seven mobile phones, and a 6kg gas cylinder suspected to have been stolen during the raid.
Following their arrest, the suspects cooperated with authorities and led the officers to their residence. A search at the premises uncovered a stash of stolen goods, including assorted electronics, multiple gas cylinders, and Kenya Power meters. Some of these items were positively identified by their rightful owners, confirming the suspects’ involvement in previous robbery incidents.
The injured university student was rushed to the Maasai Mara University Clinic for treatment. Medical personnel reported that the student was in stable condition and responding well to care.
All three suspects remain in custody as they await formal charges and arraignment in court. Police have reiterated their commitment to cracking down on crime and ensuring that communities remain safe. They have also urged members of the public to continue providing information that could help law enforcement prevent and solve crimes.
