A middle-aged man who had been missing for several days was found dead in his house in Mwiki, Kasarani, Nairobi. According to area residents, the man, identified as Michael Nomo, had not been seen for about three days. His decomposed body was discovered on Wednesday evening after neighbours noticed a foul smell emanating from his residence and alerted the authorities.
Police officers who responded to the call broke into the house and found Nomo’s body in an advanced state of decomposition. Preliminary observations revealed that the body had septic wounds on the stomach and legs. The deceased had reportedly been living alone at the time of his death. His body was moved to the mortuary, where a postmortem will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death. Investigations are ongoing.
In a separate incident in Karumandi, Kirinyaga County, the body of a man was discovered lying by the roadside in what police suspect to be a case of murder. The man was identified as Geoffrey Murithi, aged 44. Upon inspection, visible injuries were noted on his head. The motive behind the killing remains unclear. Authorities transferred the body to the mortuary pending a postmortem and further investigations.
Meanwhile, in Suneka, Kisii County, another body was discovered inside a deserted, mud-walled, iron-roofed house in the Bonyanchaire sub-location. The deceased, 47-year-old Sebastian Ogato, was found after police were called to the scene long after the death had occurred. His remains were taken to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary for autopsy.
In Ekerenyo, Nyamira County, a 68-year-old man identified as David Nyakangi was found dead in his mud-walled house. Police stated that the cause of death had not been immediately established. The body was moved to the mortuary for further examination.
Separately, authorities in Mumias, Kakamega County, are investigating the death of an 18-year-old man who was reportedly lynched by a mob on allegations of theft. The young man, Ignatius Munyendo, was found lifeless on a long wooden chair, covered with a blanket. His body bore multiple stab wounds.
Preliminary reports indicate that the deceased had been caught stealing farm produce. The owner of the farm raised an alarm, prompting her sons and other locals to descend on the suspected thief with sharp objects. By the time police arrived at the scene, the young man had succumbed to his injuries.
The police have launched investigations into the incident and reiterated their position against mob justice. Law enforcement authorities continue to urge the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and instead surrender suspects to police for proper legal processing. The rise in mob lynching cases has raised concern, and authorities warn that individuals found guilty of participating in such acts will face serious criminal charges.
All the incidents highlight a disturbing trend of unattended deaths, suspected murders, and mob justice in various counties. As police pursue leads and conduct autopsies, the communities involved are left grappling with fear, suspicion, and calls for justice.
