Police in Kisauni, Mombasa County, have arrested two suspects and recovered a vehicle that was reported stolen at Buruburu Police Station in Nairobi.
Two individuals, aged 42 and 34, were apprehended by detectives after being found in possession of a silver Toyota Axio with registration number KDP 289B. The suspects were identified as Emmanuel Mugodo Sabwa and Erick Maingi Muimi.
Acting on forensic leads, detectives tracked the stolen vehicle to the Utange area in Mombasa County. Upon arrival at the scene, they discovered the car’s tracking device abandoned approximately 20 meters from a perimeter wall enclosing the compound where the vehicle was found.
Further investigation revealed that the car had been altered to evade identification. It was found fitted with a different registration plate, KDA 348V, while its front dashboard had been partially dismantled, indicating possible preparations for resale or parts trade.
In addition to the stolen vehicle, authorities recovered various items linked to car theft and tampering. These included multiple car keys, dismantled car trackers, a key programming machine, and several number plates bearing different registrations: KDJ 885G, KDP 289B, SSD 763A, and KCT 278Y. Also found were two logbooks for vehicles with registration numbers KCU 527H and KDA 348V, along with one HP laptop.
Following their arrest, the suspects were taken to Mjambere Police Station, where they are being held as they undergo processing ahead of their arraignment in court.
Meanwhile, the recovered items have been secured and are being treated as exhibits in the ongoing investigation. Authorities continue to urge vehicle owners to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activities related to vehicle theft promptly. The successful recovery of the stolen car highlights the efficiency of forensic tracking methods and the commitment of law enforcement agencies to combating vehicle-related crimes.
