A Massachusetts teenager is in custody after allegedly killing his older brother during an argument. The 17-year-old is facing charges of murder, possession of a large-capacity firearm, and possession of a firearm without proper identification.
Authorities say the incident took place on a Saturday afternoon when officers responded to a residence on Rodman Street for a reported shooting. Upon arrival, they found the 20-year-old victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency personnel transported him to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
According to prosecutors, the two brothers were engaged in a physical altercation at home. Their mother attempted to break up the fight by pushing the older brother into his bedroom. The younger brother allegedly left the scene but returned within two minutes, now armed with a firearm equipped with an extended magazine. The argument escalated again, and the younger brother allegedly shot his sibling in the chest, causing fatal injuries.
During a court hearing, the defendant stood next to his attorney, appearing somber and shaking his head while the prosecution presented its case. The courtroom was filled with family members and friends, many of whom expressed their support for the accused teenager. Some were heard shouting reassurances and words of love during the proceedings.
The younger brother had been a student at a local high school, where he was known to play basketball. His older sibling had also attended the same school.
Due to state laws, the defendant will be tried as an adult, as first- and second-degree murder cases involving individuals older than 16 cannot be handled in juvenile court. He remains in custody at the county jail without the possibility of bond.
