A 23-year-old woman in Texas has been arrested for allegedly killing her boyfriend, fatally shooting the 28-year-old man in a jealous rage after going through his cellphone and seeing messages from another woman.
Authorities took the woman into custody on Tuesday and charged her with one count of murder in the slaying of her boyfriend. Deputies and homicide detectives responded to a call in the early morning hours about a murder victim on Barely Lane, near Jones Road. Upon arrival, first responders found the victim lying unresponsive in the street, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators revealed that the couple had been in a volatile relationship, and the motive for the shooting was possibly rooted in jealousy. The victim and his mother lived in the Oak Grove apartment complex, near where his body was found.
Court documents indicated that detectives spoke to the victim’s mother, who confirmed that her son and the suspect had been dating. She described their relationship as violent and noted that the suspect had previously caused serious injuries to him. In December of the previous year, the victim had even filed a police report against the suspect after she allegedly made threats against him, though no charges had been filed at the time.
Surveillance footage from the area allegedly showed a car matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle leaving the scene around the time of the shooting. The vehicle was seen speeding away with its headlights off.
Investigators determined that on the night of the incident, the couple had spent several hours together at the victim’s apartment. Later, the suspect left and returned to her mother’s residence. At some point, the victim called her, saying that he had accidentally left his cellphone in her car.
After locating the phone, the suspect reportedly found messages from another woman. Enraged, she allegedly grabbed a .45 caliber pistol and returned to confront him.
During the confrontation, the suspect claimed that the victim grabbed her by her jacket. She responded by shooting him five to six times before leaving him in the street and returning home.
Authorities also disclosed that the suspect was a decorated veteran who had previously served in Afghanistan.
