Detectives from Embakasi Police Station have arrested two prime suspects involved in a burglary that occurred on April 20, 2025, at a godown located at Atlantic Business Park in Embakasi. The theft, which involved electronics worth over KSh17.6 million, was discovered when employees returned to work after the Easter holidays.
Upon arriving, the workers found that Go Down No. 16 and No. 17, which belong to Aetlantiq Group Limited, had been broken into and a range of valuable goods had been stolen. According to the report filed with the Mombasa Road Police Station, it was clear that a group of thieves, armed with crude weapons, had gained access to the building by cutting through the iron sheet roof. They strategically targeted the accounts offices and storeroom, where they made off with a significant amount of electronics and other goods.
The stolen items included 363 Hisense 43-inch televisions, 20 HB 20-inch televisions, 11 sets of HS 218 soundbars, four HP laptops, two mobile phones, desktop computers, school bags, spare parts, and CCTV servers, among other valuable items. After the crime, the perpetrators disappeared without leaving behind any immediate trace.
An investigation into the incident revealed a troubling failure on the part of the security personnel, who were supposed to be monitoring the premises. Despite the alarm being triggered during the burglary, the security team did not alert the authorities. This raised suspicions of possible involvement or negligence, prompting further investigation into the actions of the guards on duty. Some of the security personnel are now believed to be in hiding as the police look into the possibility of a larger conspiracy surrounding the crime.
The investigation into the burglary was extensive, with detectives following forensic leads that ultimately led them to two key suspects: James Macharia Mwangi and Keriko Wanjama. The suspects were arrested at a hideout located at the Scorpion Den hotel in Ruai, where police recovered a large number of the stolen goods. Among the recovered items were 269 Hisense 43-inch televisions, 65 Hisense 55-inch A6 televisions, two Hisense 65-inch Q6 televisions, eight Hisense 58-inch A6 televisions, seven Hisense 32-inch A4 televisions, four Hisense 40-inch televisions, and four Hisense 50-inch televisions. Other recovered items included an Aiwa SB 8320 speaker, an Aiwa SB 2031 speaker, and 11 sets of HS 218 soundbars.
Additionally, police found a white Mitsubishi FH motor vehicle, registration number KAV 565Q, loaded with the stolen goods. The vehicle has been impounded and is being held as an exhibit as part of the ongoing investigation.
Currently, the two suspects are in police custody, undergoing processing as they await arraignment. The recovered items and the vehicle are also being retained as evidence while detectives continue to follow up on additional leads. Authorities are focusing on identifying and apprehending the security personnel who were on duty during the burglary. Furthermore, the police are determined to uncover any additional individuals involved in the planning or execution of the crime.
As the investigation progresses, there is anticipation that more suspects will be arrested, and the full extent of the conspiracy behind the burglary will be revealed. The authorities are urging anyone with information about the crime to come forward, as they continue to work toward bringing all those responsible for the theft to justice.
