Liverpool have secured the loan signing of Sam Kerr from Bayern Munich until the end of the season. The Scotland international, who joined Bayern Munich from Rangers in 2023, won the Frauen-Bundesliga title in her first season with the German club. This move marks a return to England for Kerr, who had previously been on Liverpool’s radar before her move to Bayern Munich.
Matt Beard, Liverpool’s manager, expressed his excitement about Kerr’s arrival, stating that the club had been following her for some time. He believes that Kerr has grown into a more complete player during her time in Germany, where she gained valuable experience playing for one of Europe’s top women’s football teams. Kerr herself shared her enthusiasm for the move, noting that she was drawn to Liverpool’s ambition and the opportunity to continue her development. She reflected on the challenges of playing in Germany, particularly in a high-intensity environment with world-class players, which she believes has greatly contributed to her growth as a player.
Kerr began her senior career at the Central Girls Football Academy in Grangemouth, before moving to Glasgow City in 2016, where she won four league titles. She later joined Rangers in 2021 and helped the team secure its first SWPL 1 title in 2022, followed by a Scottish Women’s Cup win in 2023. Kerr has also been a regular fixture in the Scotland national team, earning her first senior cap in 2020. She was named Scotland’s player of the year in 2022 and is now focused on bringing her experience to Liverpool. She emphasized that her leadership qualities, energy, and passion would be key contributions to her new team.
Meanwhile, Everton have completed the signing of Wales international Hayley Ladd from Manchester United for an undisclosed fee. Ladd, who has 90 caps for Wales, brings versatility to Everton’s squad, capable of playing both in defense and midfield. The 31-year-old expressed her excitement about joining the club, citing its rich history, particularly in women’s football, and the competitive nature of the squad. Ladd also praised Everton’s manager, Brian Sørensen, for his clear vision and approach to the game.
Before joining United, Ladd had stints at several clubs, including Arsenal, Coventry City, Bristol City, Birmingham City, and Finnish side Kokkola Futis 10. At Manchester United, she won the club’s player of the season award for the 2019-20 campaign. Ladd’s arrival at Everton marks the club’s fourth signing of the January transfer window, following the arrivals of Kelly Gago, Spain under-23s defender Martina Fernández, and teenage prospect Emma Watson on loan.
Sørensen expressed his confidence in Ladd’s ability to contribute both on and off the field, citing her experience and versatility as valuable assets to the squad. With a strong start to the January transfer window, Everton are looking to strengthen their squad as they continue to build for the second half of the season.
