Makueni County has onboarded 125 interns across various departments. The confirmation ceremony took place at Wote Green Park, where Deputy Governor (DG) Lucy Mulili addressed the new interns with words of encouragement and caution.
DG Mulili emphasized the importance of integrity and responsibility among the county employees, urging them not to exploit the interns. “You are here to serve where you will be attached and let no man or woman try to convince you on empty promises. Dare not to mislead these young ones,” she stated. She further encouraged the interns to collaborate, learn from each other, maintain good grooming and etiquette, and display a positive attitude towards work.
Highlighting the financial aspect, the DG advised the interns to manage their small monthly stipends wisely. She reassured them of the county’s commitment to mentoring and training them throughout their internship period.
Elizabeth Muli, County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education, ICT, and Internship, also spoke at the event, urging the interns to leave a lasting impact in their respective roles. “We are committed to making you achieve your goals. It’s our prayer that you transition to better jobs after this contract. Everything you do should reflect excellence,” Muli said, instilling a sense of purpose and ambition in the interns.
The county’s inclusive approach was evident as Purity Nthenya, representing persons living with disabilities, expressed gratitude for the opportunity given to them. She appreciated the county for considering two interns with disabilities and voiced their readiness to learn and shape their future through this initiative.
This internship program is a testament to Makueni County’s dedication to youth empowerment and professional development. By providing practical experience and mentorship, the county aims to equip these young individuals with the skills and confidence needed to excel in their future careers.
