A man in Florida was arrested after allegedly beating a fellow hotel guest to death with a fire extinguisher in a violent outburst following his eviction from the hotel. The incident took place last Wednesday at the Quality Inn in Kissimmee, located near Disney World. Authorities responded to a call about an armed disturbance at the hotel, and when they arrived, they found the suspect, Piero Estefano But-Castillo, covered in blood. The victim, 55-year-old Robert Krusinowski, was discovered unresponsive with severe injuries to his head, face, and neck. Despite the efforts of paramedics to save him, Krusinowski was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to law enforcement, But-Castillo had been staying at the hotel for an extended period but was asked to leave on Wednesday after being told he could not extend his stay. Upset by this, But-Castillo began causing destruction on the third floor of the hotel, smashing windows in occupied rooms. Krusinowski, who had been a long-time resident of the hotel and was known for helping with maintenance, attempted to intervene and deescalate the situation. However, But-Castillo allegedly responded with extreme violence, attacking Krusinowski.
Surveillance footage and witness statements revealed that But-Castillo first slammed Krusinowski to the ground before striking him with the fire extinguisher. The assault continued as But-Castillo punched and stomped on Krusinowski’s head, even after the victim appeared motionless. The suspect then dragged Krusinowski through the breezeway, continuing his brutal attack with additional kicks and punches.
Authorities arrived at the scene while the assault was still ongoing and quickly arrested But-Castillo on charges of first-degree murder. He was taken into custody without bond and is currently being held at the Osceola County Jail. Investigators learned that But-Castillo had entered the United States on January 1 on a 90-day tourist visa. He had previously been in the country in 2019 as a student before returning to Chile.
The violent nature of the attack shocked both witnesses and law enforcement officials. Sheriff Marcos Lopez described the incident as a brutal beating, emphasizing the severity of the assault with the fire extinguisher. The tragic event highlights the unpredictable and dangerous nature of such confrontations, particularly when emotions escalate in a public setting like a hotel.
