Merishaw School, a relatively new entrant in Kenya’s educational landscape, has made a significant impact by emerging as the top-performing school in the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams. Located along the Isinya-Namanga Road in Kajiado County, the boys’ school outshone long-established academic giants, making its mark as a leader in academic excellence.
Under the leadership of former Alliance High School Principal, David Kariuki, Merishaw School achieved an impressive mean score of 10.5686, equivalent to an A- (minus). This stellar performance propelled the school to the top of the rankings, surpassing heavyweights such as Alliance High School (10.31), Kapsabet Boys (10.145), and Kenya High (10.145). Notably, this achievement is all the more remarkable considering that it is the school’s first-ever participation in the national exams since its founding in 2022.
The results are a testament to Merishaw School’s commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals with a focus on both academic and extracurricular excellence. Out of the 51 students in the school’s inaugural KCSE cohort, all attained grades qualifying them for university admission, with a minimum grade of C+ and above. Seven students stood out with exceptional results, each scoring straight A’s. These top performers include Kamau Nate Gitonga, Cyril Baraka Onyango, and Joshua Githinji Kirimi, among others.
Merishaw School’s success is also reflected in the overall grade distribution, with 23 students securing A-, 16 achieving B+, and a few other students scoring B- and C+. These impressive results highlight the school’s strong academic foundation, which blends the 8-4-4 curriculum with the new Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) for both junior and senior secondary levels.
The school’s state-of-the-art facilities further enhance its academic offerings. Equipped with modern science labs, technology-integrated learning environments, and vibrant co-curricular programs, Merishaw School ensures that students have the tools and support needed for holistic development. The institution is also recognized as a national lacrosse center, offering students opportunities to excel in sports.
With a clear focus on science, technology, and innovation, Merishaw School is preparing its students for the future by providing them with an education that goes beyond academics. The school is now admitting students for Grades 7-9 and Forms 2-3, inviting parents and guardians to explore its offerings.
