Michael Olunga Welcomes Luis Alberto to Al Duhail: Former Liverpool Midfielder Joins Qatari Side

Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga will soon be joined on the pitch by a new high-profile teammate. Former Liverpool and Lazio midfielder Luis Alberto has officially transferred to the Qatari club, bringing a wealth of experience and skill to the squad.

Alberto’s move from Lazio to Al Duhail has been finalized in a deal valued at approximately €10 million, including bonuses. This significant transfer comes after Alberto publicly expressed his desire to leave the Italian side, marking the end of his eight-year stint with Lazio. Despite initial expectations of a €20 million offer, Lazio eventually agreed to the lower sum, finalizing the deal on Tuesday. Alberto had already completed his medical examination for Al Duhail last week, ensuring the move was on solid ground.

The transfer marks a notable shift in Alberto’s career, taking him from the competitive pitches of Serie A to the growing football scene in Qatar. His experience in top European leagues is expected to be a significant asset for Al Duhail as they aim to bolster their squad and enhance their competitive edge.

Adding an interesting financial twist to the transfer, Liverpool, Alberto’s former club, stands to benefit as well. When Liverpool sold Alberto to Lazio in the summer of 2016 for €4 million, a clause in the transfer agreement stipulated that the Reds would receive 12 per cent of any future sale proceeds. As a result, Liverpool is set to net approximately €1.2 million from Alberto’s move to Al Duhail.

For Michael Olunga, playing alongside a seasoned midfielder like Luis Alberto presents an exciting opportunity. Olunga, known for his striking prowess, will likely benefit from Alberto’s creative playmaking abilities, potentially forming a formidable partnership on the field.

Al Duhail fans eagerly anticipate seeing their new lineup in action, hoping that the combination of Olunga and Alberto will lead to greater success in domestic and international competitions. As the Qatari club continues to attract top talent, the future looks promising for Al Duhail, with high expectations for the upcoming season.
