Former Nairobi nominated Senator Millicent Omanga has accused Governor Johnson Sakaja of allegedly misusing his powers to intimidate political opponents. This accusation comes after Omanga’s business was reportedly raided on Wednesday night, an incident she claims was orchestrated by Sakaja in a bid to silence her.
Late Wednesday night, Omanga took to her social media platforms to express her outrage, alleging that Governor Sakaja had sent a bus full of county employees to raid her business premises. According to Omanga, these county askaris (security officers) not only raided her business but also attempted to apprehend her and her staff.
In a series of social media posts, Omanga did not mince her words. She firmly accused Sakaja of trying to intimidate her due to her political stance within the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party. Omanga, who has been vocal in her support for candidates opposing Sakaja for the Nairobi County UDA chairperson position, believes this raid was a direct response to her political activities.
The raid is seen as a manifestation of the escalating political tensions within the UDA party, particularly concerning the upcoming elections for the Nairobi County UDA chairperson. Omanga’s outspoken support for candidates other than Sakaja has put her at odds with the governor, leading to what she describes as retaliatory actions against her.
“Governor Johnson Sakaja has sent a busload of over forty county askaris to my business premises to arrest me and my staff simply because I’m not supporting him for the Nairobi County UDA chairperson,” Omanga stated.
Despite the alleged intimidation tactics, Omanga has vowed not to be silenced. During the raid, she filmed the county employees inside the bus, capturing the driver’s indifferent demeanor as she questioned the purpose of their actions. The footage, shared on her social media, shows a composed Omanga questioning the employees, who remained unresponsive throughout the ordeal.
The incident has sparked a flurry of reactions from both political supporters and critics. Many have condemned the alleged misuse of power, calling for an investigation into the actions of the county officials. Others see this as a clear indicator of the high-stakes nature of the internal UDA elections and the lengths to which some are willing to go to secure political dominance.
Governor Sakaja has yet to publicly respond to these allegations. As the story unfolds, it remains to be seen how this incident will impact the political landscape within the UDA party and the broader Nairobi County governance.
