Mount Kenya University (MKU) has entered into a collaborative agreement with Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral & Research Hospital (KUTRRH). This partnership aims to leverage KUTRRH’s cutting-edge facilities for the benefit of MKU’s medical students, fostering advancements in cancer research and other crucial medical fields.
Professor Jaganyi, Vice Chancellor of MKU, highlighted the immense potential of this collaboration. “Let us get the best out of this deal because we believe KUTRRH has cutting edge facilities that our medical students will use to train,” he remarked, emphasizing the transformative impact this partnership could have on medical training and research.
The VC further underscored the mutual commitment of both institutions to serve society through enhanced medical research and training. “The presence of our two institutions this afternoon in this room is a demonstration of a shared commitment to work together in serving the society through medical research and training for promotion of the medical service as a common good,” he added.
With a robust student population exceeding 60,000 across its campuses, MKU is well-positioned to maximize the benefits of this collaboration. Professor Jaganyi expressed optimism about future collaborations, both within Africa and globally. He commended Professor Wanderi and his dedicated team for their relentless efforts in securing this vital training partnership with the referral hospital.
“Our Principal, College of Health Sciences, and his team of five Deans of Schools are eagerly waiting for this agreement to be signed so that their students and staff can start using this faculty for attachments and internships,” Professor Jaganyi noted, highlighting the anticipation and readiness of MKU’s academic community to embark on this new journey.
The training pact between MKU and KUTRRH, effective immediately and renewable every three years, marks a pivotal moment for both institutions.
