Political activist Morara Kebaso, known for his fiery campaigns and imitating President William Ruto’s speeches, is gaining momentum in his pursuit of the presidency in 2027. Recently, he revealed that he has received Ksh. 6 million in donations from Kenyans who support his cause. This financial backing, he claims, is an expression of public faith in his leadership, with contributions from well-wishers funding his nationwide tours and advocacy.
Kebaso, who rose to prominence in 2024 by mimicking President Ruto’s signature kaunda suits and mannerisms, believes that he is well-positioned to unseat the current president. Drawing a parallel to U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, who relied on public support rather than personal wealth for his campaign, Kebaso argues that a leader should be funded by the people to ensure accountability. According to him, when the public finances a leader’s ambitions, they become answerable to them.
Morara detailed his journey thus far, including the purchase of PA systems, vehicles, and other campaign essentials amounting to around Ksh. 6 million. He emphasized that transparency in financial dealings and consistent efforts on the ground are crucial to maintaining trust.
Addressing skepticism from critics who suggest that he may be a puppet for other political interests, Kebaso firmly stated that he is not anyone’s project. “I am my own man, made by Kenyans who stand with me,” he declared. He reassured his supporters that his commitment to the cause will separate him from opportunistic figures.
As for his rivals, Morara sees Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah as his most formidable contender, dismissing the influence of established politicians like Kalonzo Musyoka and Fred Matiang’i. He is confident that his faction, the Inclusive National Justice, Economic and Civil Transformation (INJECT) party, will lead the way with fresh, people-centered policies.
With the 2027 elections on the horizon, Morara Kebaso’s ambitious campaign is shaping up to be a significant force in Kenya’s political landscape.
