Morocco has reported a significant increase in efforts to combat irregular migration, with the Interior Ministry announcing that over 78,685 illegal migration attempts were thwarted. This surge in migration attempts is attributed to a combination of political instability and climate-related challenges in the Sahel region, which has intensified migratory pressures on Morocco as a transit country to Europe.
The statistics reveal that 58% of irregular migrants intercepted originated from West Africa, while 12% came from the Maghreb and 9% from East and Central Africa. In addition to thwarting migration attempts, Moroccan authorities have dismantled 332 smuggling networks, highlighting the ongoing battle against organized crime associated with human trafficking.
