MTN Uganda and the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) have joined forces to host the prestigious International Telecommunication Union Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR-24). Held at the Speke Resort Munyonyo, this symposium serves as a pivotal platform for discussing key issues and setting agendas crucial to the sector’s development.
The symposium kicked off with a dynamic Industry Advisory Group session, featuring esteemed leaders from both industry and the private sector. Notably, MTN’s Group Chief Legal and Regulatory Officer, Ms. Lele Modise, took on the role of moderator, guiding discussions alongside CEO Mulinge Sylvia M.B.S. Participants engaged in insightful dialogues addressing the complexities of today’s digital landscape and charting pathways for the next decade.
Central to these discussions were themes of sustainable funding models and equitable contributions to digital infrastructure development. As technology continues to evolve, there was a consensus on the critical need for secure, private, and affordable access to ICT for all segments of society. The symposium underscored the importance of adaptable regulatory frameworks capable of keeping pace with rapid advancements in artificial intelligence, Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTNs), and future technologies such as 6G.
The event not only provided a forum for sharing best practices but also highlighted Uganda’s commitment to fostering a conducive regulatory environment that encourages innovation and investment in telecommunications. With stakeholders from across the globe participating, GSR-24 sets a precedent for collaborative efforts in addressing the challenges and opportunities in the digital era.
Looking ahead, initiatives born from these discussions are expected to influence policy decisions and regulatory frameworks not only in Uganda but potentially across the region. As the telecommunications landscape continues to evolve, partnerships like the one between MTN Uganda and UCC demonstrate a shared commitment to driving sustainable growth and inclusivity in the digital economy.
