Kipchumba Murkomen has officially handed over the Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports docket to his successor, Salim Mvurya. This move comes after President William Ruto reshuffled his Cabinet last year, appointing Murkomen as the new Interior Cabinet Secretary.
During the handover, Murkomen expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the nation in the sports and youth affairs portfolio. He commended the ministry’s staff for their dedication, particularly Principal Secretary Ismail Madey and Eng. Peter Tum, for their unwavering support.
“It is a privilege and an honour to serve your country in any capacity. I am grateful for the chance I had to work with the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports,” Murkomen stated.
The outgoing CS highlighted key achievements during his tenure and pledged continued support for the youth and sports sectors under Mvurya’s leadership.
Salim Mvurya, taking over the docket, affirmed his commitment to advancing Kenya’s youth empowerment and promoting the creative economy. To mark the beginning of his tenure, the two leaders conducted a joint inspection of the Nyayo National Stadium and the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
During the inspection, Mvurya expressed confidence in Kenya’s readiness to co-host the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) and the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). “Our facilities meet international standards, and we are determined to ensure that Kenya shines on the global stage in these tournaments,” he said.
The handover signals a new chapter for Kenya’s sports and youth sectors, with a renewed focus on infrastructure, talent development, and economic opportunities through creative industries.
With the country preparing to host major international tournaments, expectations are high for Mvurya’s leadership to elevate Kenya’s standing in African and global sports. The nation looks forward to seeing continued progress in both youth empowerment and the creative economy, solidifying its reputation as a hub for talent and innovation.
