Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has issued a stern warning to those misusing social media, vowing that the government will no longer tolerate irresponsible online behavior. Speaking at the funeral of Ian Singoei in Chepalungu, Bomet, Murkomen made it clear that the country must operate under law and order, and offenders will be held accountable under existing legal provisions.
“We will not tolerate this any longer. The country must operate under law and order,” Murkomen asserted, emphasizing that the government will take swift action against those misusing social media platforms. The Interior CS underscored that his actions would be strictly apolitical and focused solely on enforcing the law, regardless of the political affiliations of the accused. “Nobody can intimidate us. What matters is the rule of law,” he declared.
Murkomen particularly condemned the spread of defamatory content online, including offensive images targeting judges, church leaders, and political figures. He referenced the disturbing trend of circulating pictures of individuals, including children in coffins, and malicious propaganda on various social media platforms. The CS made it clear that the government would no longer allow such actions to continue, warning that offenders would be taken to court to face legal consequences.
“We are not in the business of abductions, but of arresting and charging those who break the law,” Murkomen affirmed. This strong stance is in line with the government’s commitment to maintaining law and order in the digital space.
The statements came during the funeral of Ian Singoei, the 27-year-old son of Elgeiyo Marakwet County Commissioner John Korir, whose tragic death shook the community. Singoei’s body was discovered in Mwiki, Kasarani, after he went missing on New Year’s Eve. A postmortem revealed that he drowned.
Leaders who attended the funeral included Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, Governor Hillary Barchok, and several Members of Parliament, underscoring the significant political and community support during the somber occasion
